f.i.t. HOUSE MOROCCO 2
2025 / Oukaimeden, Morocco
The construction of the community center in Oukaimeden began when we disassembled the prototype in UM6P, transported the SIP boards to the site, and reassembled the boards to make the first building: the shop. While the prototype was initially 6 panels by 3 panels wide, the floor were concrete foundation for the shop, so the floor boards were reused and altered to fit as wall panels, expanding the space of the shop to be 6 panels by 4 panels.
Remaining SIP boards for the 3 units, the prayer room, atelier, and kindergarten, were manufactured at a CNC business in Marrakech, which were transported by truck to Oukaimeden. Once the concrete footing and foundations were set, as well as the panels arrived, the construction for the buildings could start immediately. During the construction of the prayer room, students from Keio University, UM6P and other schools in Morocco came together to build the structure. The process only took three days. The remaining two units were built with local villagers and UM6P students, each unit only taking two days each to complete, including some exterior fixes and the membrane. The remaining tasks such as application of facade, roof construction, plumbing and electricity were done by local carpenters.
TEAM: Refugee Girls Worldwide (initiative), Droplets of Mercy, Keio University SFC Hiroto Kobayashi Laboratory, Reghai Nizar Architects, Parallel Builds, Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P), ReBuild, Oukaimeden Commune, Ait Slimane Association, FabTechno, and local volunteers.
